Playa del Carmen is a tourist town. The town of Playa del Carmen has been a tourist destination for years, even before the popularization of Cancun as a vacation spot. It’s located on the Caribbean coast of Mexico, right near Tulum and Cozumel.

Playa del Carmen is considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world because it’s clean and white sanded, with warm blue waters that are perfect for swimming! The area also has some great restaurants where you can grab local food or get an authentic Mexican meal at one of their many famous restaurants. There’s also tons to do if you want to take advantage of your time there including:

Nearby attractions like Chichen Itza or Tulum ruins (both are less than 2 hours away)
Scuba diving in Isla Mujeres or Cozumel Island
Jungle zip-lining adventures through Aktun Chen Rio Secreto (I did this!!)

The beach

The beach is wide and sandy, stretching for miles. The water is warm and clear, with fish swimming around you as you swim. There are many places to rent boogie boards, stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, or canoes to enjoy the water. The sand is soft on your feet as you walk along the shoreline watching the waves roll in from all directions. If you want to get some sun or just relax in a lounge chair while listening to music playing through your earbuds there are plenty of chairs available at reasonable prices (30 pesos per hour).

The clubs

A trip to Playa del Carmen is not complete without a visit to one of its many clubs. These venues are open until 4 am, and you’ll find them packed with tourists on the weekends. Because Playa del Carmen is a popular tourist destination, there’s an excellent selection of clubs offering different types of music: salsa and reggaeton are common genres, but you may also hear rock and pop music as well.

Cozumel Island

Cozumel is an island off the coast of Playa del Carmen. It has a beautiful beach and some great restaurants, but its main attraction is the fishing and diving industry. The water here is teeming with fish, making it an excellent spot for both recreational and professional divers to come and explore.

If you’re looking for something more relaxed, Cozumel also has several stunning beaches that are perfect for spending a day lounging in the sun or swimming around in crystal-clear waters.

Fishing and diving

There are numerous places for fishing and diving in Playa del Carmen. The most popular spots include:

The Riviera Maya is just south of Playa del Carmen and includes the Mayan Rivera, Tulum, and other nearby locations. You can take an excursion to one of these areas or charter your own boat to get there.

Xcaret Park & Eco-Archaeological Site – This park is situated along the coast where you can enjoy swimming with dolphins or visit a coral reef aquarium to see thousands of species underwater in one place! Our Personal Concierge can help you to book any activity you want to experience.

Xel-Ha Park – This park offers dolphin encounters plus snorkeling on underground rivers filled with manatees, turtles, and colorful fish!
